About The Carter Trust

Our History

The Trust was originally set up by Lord Carter on the 19th September 1993 in memory of his son Andrew under the title of The Andrew Carter Trust. The name of the trust was changed to The Andrew and Catherine Carter Trust in 2004 to encompass the name of his recently deceased daughter Catherine. Both children endured problems with their vision and other medical conditions prior to their premature deaths.

Supporting two children with significant disabilities gave Lord Carter a unique insight into the difficulties experienced by families. Lord Carter’s vision was to minimise these difficulties by providing financial assistance to help overcome the obstacles preventing disabled persons from reaching their full potential in the workplace and at home.

The Carter Trust is the working title of this Charity. It is managed by a Board of  Trustees who were personally known to the Carter family as friends or on a professional basis.
